What our volunteers do

Our service to clients is delivered entirely by volunteers.
You do not need any special qualifications or experience to join our team of volunteers.
All we require is common sense, compassion and reliability. If you live within easy commuting distance of any of our PSU offices and can spare at least two days per month then we would
like to hear from you.

As a PSU volunteer you will help litigants in person, witnesses, family members and other members of the public by:

  • Accompanying them around the court building
  • Accompanying into court for their hearing
  • Offering a listening ear and the opportunity for them to talk through their case
  • Offering practical information about court processes
  • Assisting with paperwork and telephone calls
  • We will give you full training and support to enable you to carry out this role. We will reimburse your travel and lunch expenses. You will also take away from the PSU a sense of great satisfaction from helping people in very difficult situations. It is rewarding and varied work.

We also need volunteers to undertake office work (eg fundraising, database updating and general administrative work) to support our small staff team. Please do get in touch with us if you have time to spare and think you could help us in this way.
